ANGHARAD noted that she has taken over from JACOMO as Canton Seneschal as of Baronial Twelfth Night. It was observed that there were several new people at the meeting, so introductions were done around the room. 2. OUEN reported from the Baronial Executive meeting, which took place at Baronial Twelfth Night. GEOFFROI is the new Chronicler and OUEN is the new Baronial Seneschal. The Baronial Chatelaine position is still open, as no applications were received and the deadline has been extended to Practicum. The Web Minister position deadline is February 8, 2003: two applications have already been received. 3. OUEN and ANGHARAD reported from the Baronial Twelfth Night. There were approximately 50 people attending, including people from all four cantons and some from as far away as Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. There was a 6-person fighting tourney, which was won by EREC. WILHELM, CRISTABELL and JACOMO gave a short fencing demo to an audience of approximately 10 to 15. ANGHARAD became a clerk of MENKEN's. In addition, several people got baronial awards at court. 4. There was a discussion about the Canton Pursuivant and Chatelaine positions. We have received two applications for the former and a joint application for the latter. ANGHARAD noted that there will be a Canton Executive meeting to discuss the applications. 5. There was a short discussion about the Baronial and Canton Web Minister positions. ISABELLA noted that, due to circumstances beyond her control, she may have to step down before Practicum. MAGNUS noted that he would be willing to help out if required. 6. DUBH reported on Canton 12th Night, scheduled for January 18, 2003. We have finally found a site: All Saints Westboro. There will be an A&S competition: Costuming, Cooking, Limerick and Triathlon. The event is a potluck. There was a discussion about the Non-Member Surcharge, fees and donations. 7. CRISTABELL reported about Practicum. It seems to be falling into place, but volunteers are still needed. There are still some spaces available for teachers. CRISTABELL noted that she is experiencing some difficulties in getting a contract from the church. 8. The group voted on Catherine's proposal for Just a Feast. It will be held on April 5, 2003 at the Westboro Masonic Temple on Churchill. LUCIA answered questions from the group regarding the event. The group voted to hold the event. 9. ANGHARAD called for "around the room" items. She noted that she would prefer if people had all their items ready to go at one time. 10. OUEN reported that the First Aid Course has been postponed both because he suddenly got busy and because space was not available at Northwestern for the whole weekend. 11. DUBH reminded people to give her ideas and plans for future SCA Days. 12. DUBH noted that Bardic has been changed to the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month, so that they do not conflict with Hard & Soft A & S. 13. GINA noted that, starting January 14, 2003, A&S will be starting up again. 14. ISABELLA noted that updates to the web page may be slower than people are used to. 15. CECILIA will be putting up the Canton 12th Night webpage by day's end. 16. CECILIA spoke about the Medieval Ball Demo. There are currently four dancers, some fighters and JACOMO as a jester. She is looking for A&S people. 17. CECILIA has a children's furniture set free to anyone who is willing to pick it up. 20. CRISTABELL spoke about a potential demo for the Third Wall Theatre's presentation of "Murder at the Cathedral". They would like us to do colour for them and hand out programs for the week- long run, especially January 22, 2003. They will provide free tickets for a next evening's performance to all participants. They have no problems with us doing recruiting for the SCA as well. It was noted that we need to update our publicity materials. 21. There was a question about whether Hard & Soft A&S has restarted. ANGHARAD will check and report back. 22. ARCHIBALD has costumes for sale. 23. ARCHIBALD will do an SCA Day on "Taming the Shrew". It was suggested that he do it on February 2, 2003. 24. ANSFRID reported that Their Excellencies have determined what this year's baronial taxes would be. They would like to have a book from each canton, with every member's personal heraldry, SCA and non-SCA names and a small picture of the member. The heraldry does not need to be passed, only submittable. ANSFRID offered to help people with ideas and information. 25. RHODRI noted that no Doomsday has been received from the Canton Marshal, which has resulted in the potential suspension of armoured combat in the Canton. We have an extension until January 31, 2003. All armoured combatants should report to Rhodri with their names and the weapons styles in which they are authorised ASAP. 26. CHIARA noted that her family has a new addition. The group welcomed the newest Skrael, the 18-day-old Etienne Rebecca. 27. MAGNUS tendered his resignation as Baronial Fencing Marshal. WILHELM noted that since there are no authorised fencing marshals outside of Caldrithig, he, as Kingdom Fencing Marshal, would be leaving the baronial position vacant. 28. ANGHARAD noted that Scriptorium is restarting as of January 13, 2003. The format will alternate between classes and practical applications. 29. ANGHARAD noted that we badly need award blanks for baronial awards. They are generally 1/2 of a letter-sized sheet and we require both calligraphy and illumination. The meeting then adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Ouen de St-Helier Canton Secretary Canton of Caldrithig Meeting Notes - 12 January 2003 1
