Canton of Caldrithig Meeting Notes 16 March 2003 Comments or questions should be directed to ANGHARAD or the person identified as the contact in the notes. ATTENDING: Heather, Isabella, Gina, Anne, Geoffroi, Richard, Dubh, Wilhelm, Cristabell, Eleanor, Menken, Chiara, Aelflaeda, Alys, Judith, Cecilia, Gabrielle, TSivia. ANNOUNCEMENTS: 1. Hare bids due. ANGHARAD stated an intent to apply with SIGLINDE. Others are encouraged to apply as well. This will be the 25th Anniversary of Feast of the Hare. 2. Discussion of Canton Quartermaster position and status of kitchen equipment tentatively scheduled for next meeting. DISCUSSION ITEMS: 1. "Just A Feast" update: KATHERINE sent a message asking if she could be reimbursed for using her own spices, etc. and was informed that the Canton does not offer reimbursement for such expenditures. It was recommended that she check the Canton spice box for ingredients. It was also pointed out that rearranging internal expenditures is done at the Event Steward's discretion, although it must be documented. 2. MENKEN gave a brief report on the recent Baronial Fight Practice. It went well, although the contingent from Flaming Sky (North Bay) was unable to make it. MENKEN recommends having another Baronial practice again soon. 3. Dandelion Festival: Cupid's Nest is available for post-rev and crash space. TRM will be present at Dandelion Festival. 4, MENKEN passed on a request from CENNEDI. CENNEDI would like the Canton to front money to buy a quantity of rattan to sell locally. Pros and cons were discussed as follows: -Pros: could generate revenue for the Canton by adding a dollar per staff. It is more convenient to buy locally than to track down rattan through Edward the Red. It makes rattan immediately available to new fighters. - Cons: it could take years to sell it all. When rattan is bought in bulk, some of it is bound to be unusable (waste). It has been tried before, unsuccessfully - YUSEF lost money at it. It is difficult for the Exchequer if the stock is not sold within the fiscal year. Suggestions: make one pre-paid order. Keep the amount small. Keep it easily done by individuals. Vote: The Canton shall bankroll an order for under $200 (small order). 14 in favour of small order. 0 in favour of large order. Passed. 5. The weekly meeting experiment starts now. Meetings will occur weekly. Some meetings occurring on holiday weekends or local event weekends may be cancelled. Sunday SCA Days will still occur, they will just start earlier. ANGHARAD will contact the church to be sure that weekly meetings and earlier starting SCA Days are possible. 6. STEPHIN'S presentation on period Cryptography will occur on 30 March. 7. Autocrat's Day Off: - in conflict with Baronial Muster? - proposed date 4-6 July. - should we continue to hold the event? - if we don't book, we lose our grandfathered status for the site - there are a lot of camping events in a row - maybe book only one site - SUSANNA is not autocratting this year. Autocrat needed. Deadline for application: end of April. - some concerns were expressed re: nude swimming. These concerns must be addressed in order to make all attendees feel comfortable.
