Canton of Caldrithig Meeting Notes 14 March 2004 Comments or questions should be directed to ANGHARAD or the person identified as the contact in the notes. ATTENDING: James, Angharad (Chair), Rhodri, Ouen, Siglinde, Menken, Eleanor, TSivia, Ansfrid, Dubh, Helen, Judith, Rod, Fiona DISCUSSION ITEMS: 1. DUBHEASE (DUBH) is the new Canton Chatelaine. DUBH has 4 out of 6 Gold Key boxes. Anne still has one and Chiara still has one. DUBH will be going through the boxes to assess type and condition of the contents. 2. The position of Baronial Chatelaine remains open. 3. Coronation: Everything is well in hand. The menu for feast is set. There is a tentative menu in place for lunch. The INCOMING KING and QUEEN will be paying for feast. Contact Their Chatelaine to make reservations. A list of filled work positions will be posted to the various lists. There is still a need for a Head of Cleanup. The site will have tables with separate chairs for feast. ELEANOR will be elevated to the Order of the Pelican in morning Court. A website with info about the event will be up by the end of the week. 4. Autocrat's Day Off: DUBH reports that the Camping fees have been raised substantially for the site from $20/night to $60/night. Our booking privileges are grandfathered. We would lose the site if we do not hold the event there. It is currently tentatively being planned for the second weekend in July. 5. The Exchequer Domesday was completed and was hand-delivered to Kingdom Exchequer a week early. Ours was the only error-free report. It balanced perfectly. JUDITH mentioned that the new spreadsheet program was much easier to use than earlier forms. JUDITH also mentioned that the Canton is currently all but subsidizing the Armoured Combat practice. This is not to continue. The fighters must carry their share of the cost of using Sandy Hill Community Centre. ANGHARAD stated that this is not IOANNES' (Canton Armoured Combat Marshal) fault. He was not given sufficient explanation of his duties in this regard when he took office. ANGHARAD and JUDITH will work with IOANNES to solve the problem. 6. There will be Hard and Soft A&S this Tuesday 7. TSIVIA tried out lampworking (bead making) while at Estrella War. She was also given a Maiden's Heart while at Estrella, where she was acting as Royal Herald in Grand Court. TSIVIA mentioned that she is going to North Bay for an interview for a position at Nipissing University. We wish her luck! 8. The Baronial Exchequer position is open. EREC is being posted out of Kingdom and new Exchequer is needed. 9. JAMES mentioned that he is willing to teach beading. DUBH will arrange a suitable SCA Day with him. 10. SIGLINDE thanked those who helped out at the demo at her son's school - "Life in the Middle Ages". It went very well with around 40 fourth graders rotating through five stations. The attendees were: SIGLINDE, ANNE, STEPHIN, JUDITH and ANGHARAD. 11. Friday A&S continues at SIGLINDE'S house. 12. ANSFRID is selling his armoured combat armour and weapons. Interested persons should contact him directly. 13. Practicum: a. the attendance totals were: 86 adults and 11 children. b. the event made a profit of $23.00 c. there were lots of good comments about the classes d. ANGHARAD suggested that, in future, instead of teachers setting limits on participants, the autocrat should set limits based on classroom size. The exception being those teachers who need to restrict numbers to below classroom capacity for the purposes of their classes. e. SIGLINDE would have appreciated more feedback on the rooms and facilities (i.e. tables for displays, seating, etc.) before the actual event. f. there were problems in getting the schedule out early enough for teachers having a chance to discuss scheduling before finalized version set. g. it was suggested that some local teachers coordinate with DUBH for SCA Days - classes missed or classes that could be expanded upon would do nicely on those days. h. HELEN stated that she deliberately did not solicit out-of-area teachers because of concerns that the weather could inhibit travel. She also wished to encourage local (Baronial) teachers. 14. It was noted that the pool from which Event Stewards and Head Cooks are being drawn is very small. There is a danger of burning out the experienced people before people new to the positions have a chance to gain sufficient experience. The suggestion was made that experienced folk should take newer participants as deputies to aid/mentor them in their training for the positions. 15. The next meeting is on the 28th March. The meeting on the 11th of April is cancelled due to Easter and on the 25th of April due to Coronation. ANGHARAD will ask HYDRO if we may hold a meeting on the 18th of April, so that the entire month does not pass without meetings. Meeting Adjourned Canton of Caldrithig Meeting Notes - 14 March 2004 1
