Welcome to the Canton of Caldrithig 
The Canton of Caldrithig is a branch of the The Society for Creative Anachronism, an international organization dedicated to researching and recreating the arts and traditions of pre-17th-century Europe. Caldrithig encompasses the City of Ottawa, Ontario, and is a part of the Barony of Skraeling Althing (Eastern Ontario). We are part of The Kingdom of Ealdormere (most of Ontario), one of 17 Kingdoms worldwide.

Armoured CombatArmoured CombatKnights in shining armour! Armored combat in the SCA resembles medieval tournaments. Combatants face each other in single combat, or take part in large melee battles. Caldrithig hosts one weekly armoured combat practice on Wednesday evenings. During the summer months, weather permitting, practice may be moved outside. Rapier PracticeRapier CombatRapier combat is a style of historical fencing practiced with steel reproduction swords. The primary focus is to study, replicate and compete with styles of rapier sword-fighting found during the Renaissance period, using reproduction steel swords similar to the ones used in that period and optionally a variety of off-hand offensive & defensive items (such as a buckler or a dagger). Archery PracticeArchery PracticeArchery in the SCA takes two forms:target and combat. Target archers compete in tournaments, shooting at stationary targets. Combat archers fight on the field of battle with the armoured combatants. Check the Canton’s facebook page Caldrithig Archery for information the latest information Contact: HE Duncan Gabh MacLeod Location: Ewe’s farm (Contact Marshal for details) Times: Saturdays 1pm to 4pm Thrown WeaponsThrown WeaponsThrown weapons in the SCA include axes, knives and spears. Throwers compete in tournaments, flinging their weapons at stationary targets on the field from distances of 10 to 20 feet. Expect to see practices with knives and axes starting in the late Spring, continuing throughout the warmer months. If interested in participating, you should bring a camp chair, water, sunscreen, a sun hat, and bug spray. We have loaner knives and axes, and hope to introduce loaner spears soon. We collect a user fee of $3 per practice to maintain loaner equipment and targets.
